If you want a compostable / biodegradable option we can offer a PLA based extrudate that meets both the EN13432 and ASTM 6400 compostable standards. The polymer offers unique hot tack and sealing properties to itself or other PLA films. For example, complete biodegradable options are coated or laminate paper/boards using this polymer. A truly ‘green’ option
Alternatively, if retaining all the polyethylene properties is preferred, but require a rapid degrading option that potentially could also be consumed by micro-organisms, we can offer the oxo-biodegradeable versions. Using the latest oxo-degradable technology, we can achieve a product that retains its normal functionality (barrier or sealable). However towards the end of its accepted shelf life (or when exposed to initiators in landfill), it will be susceptible to elements such as UV or heat. This will initiate the oxo-degradation process which will rapidly degrade the polymer.

An innovation to our lightweight extrusion line means we can coat some sealable polymers (e.g. Acid Copolymers and LDPEs) onto thin foils. In fact we’ve successfully coated a seven micron aluminum foil with 20 microns of LDPE – and we could go even lower!
Extrusion laminated films are proven to have better seal integrity to form fill and seal packs (FFS) over adhesive laminations. Our process laminates two or more substrates together using odour-less, solvent-free, non-toxic polythene-based polymers.
During the heat-sealing process, the polymer tie layer softens, allowing the pack to take a new shape. The seal areas also form good hermetic seals. The polythene-based copolymer tie layer adds bulk to the packs, reinforcing the moisture barrier and providing the structure with more whiteness.
We’ve upgraded our technology to enable us to print in reverse onto PET or BOPP films. These can either be coated with a high performance sealable polymer or laminated to a foil or film.
Typical structures include:
- Ink / Paper / PE / Foil / Seal
- Ink / Paper / PE / PET / Seal
- PET / Ink / White Sealable LDPE
- BOPP / Ink / White Tie Layer / Metalised BOPP
- PET / Ink / White Tie Layer / Foil / Seal layer
